I read a book recently about the subconscious mind. Over the past 6 years, I have read a significant amount of books about eastern mysticism and eastern medicine. From what I have learned about the subconscious mind and the inner self they both seem to be two and the same. When one works on stilling the conscious mind through various forms of meditating they are capable of getting in contact with the inner-self or the subconscious mind.

The Power of the Mind

The mind is more powerful than many people tend to know or understand. Some examples of the power of the mind are: For many years it was believed that the mile could not be ran under a set amount of time. Many tried to beat this time over and over for over a decade. Then one day someone came along and beat the record.

The astounding thing is several people came right behind him months later and beat that same record. Nothing had changed with the exception of believing the record could be beaten. Another example of the power of the mind is what people with multiple personalities are capable of. Some with multiple personalities change eye colors when switching personalities, some can be dying from an allergic reaction and have all symptoms disappear when changing personalities, one personality will have diabetes and the other won’t, one will have asthma, one can be blackout drunk than sober in seconds when switching personalities. I believe we all have a power inside of us that is capable of miraculous things and the only thing that limits us is our conscious mind. Almost all major and influential spiritual text talk about this inner-being: Christians call it “the Christ within”, Buddhist call it “Buddha Nature”, Hinduism calls it “Ataman”.

The Subconscious Mind

The subconscious mind makes up 92% of the mind, the conscious mind is only 8%. Most people only use 10% of their subconscious mind, some less than 3%. The human brain has more pathways for memory then there are atoms in the universe. The worlds entire telephone network can be stored in an area in the brain the size of a pea. Steven Hawkings made a true statement: “Present computers remain outstripped in computational power compared to the brain of a humble earthworm”.
